Broadband wireless ISP
FREEDOM4 (
Pipex Wireless) has entered into a new partnership with the Milton Keynes Council. The agreement will see the provider using its WiMax technology to provide broadband Internet access to children in socially deprived regions:
Students and their families from Leon School and Sports College and associated primary schools can borrow laptops and get access to FREEDOM4's
WiMAX-powered broadband service in their homes.
Working with Milton Keynes Council, Leon School and Sports College aims to raise educational standards amongst the school's students living within FREEDOM4's
WiMAX coverage zones. An initial 60
WiMAX connections and laptops are being issued from today, which will provide users with personal access to FREEDOM4's wireless broadband service on a term-by-term basis.
"
I'm delighted to be expanding the use of WiMAX in Milton Keynes and helping to benefit the community," says Graham Currier, Business Development Director at FREEDOM4. "
Using WiMAX the students can now access the internet, an increasingly important resource in today's education. We are looking forward to extending our WiMAX service to other areas of Milton Keynes."
Working closely alongside ConnectMK, a division of Milton Keynes Council, FREEDOM4 will also offer workshops, teaching both the students and their families about how to use the technologies and how the
WiMAX service works.
Milton Keynes has traditionally suffered due to a lack of fixed-line ADSL broadband, resulting in the area becoming a popular test bed for newer technologies.
