UPDATE: It's been confirmed that the charge removal only applies for one month, although the price itself could later be lowered and we'll know by how much come 10th June 2007. Thinkbroadband reports that BTOpenreach has made a surprise move by dropping the cessation (line termination) charge of £29 +vat:
The charge is applied to the wholesale operator (BT Wholesale or another
LLU operator) which in turn passes it to the broadband service providers, and finally to end users in most cases. BT Wholesale was not able to confirm its plans at present as to whether the savings were going to be passed on to its customers.
It's unclear why openreach chose to wait until now to do this when they could have rolled it out with the recent price 'May'07' reductions. Wed be surprised if BTWholesale chose not to pass the savings on as they would now appear to have little foundation, although details remain thin on the ground.
