Despite having technically been able to achieve complete coverage, a small portion of Scotland's population remains too far from an exchange to receive broadband. The Scottish Executive (SE) has now set aside an additional £3.5m in order to resolve the problem:
The exact number isn't known. The executive has a list of around 750 people who have complained, but there could be many more.
The executive would like to speak with companies who might be able to provide connectivity to small clumps of unconnected users, and is holding an event in Glasgow on 8 May to try and find a sensible solution. This will be followed up by a consultation with the unconnected themselves later in May.
It will be interesting to see what kind of solutions the executive can come up with, although some form of wireless network is one possibility. Those living in such an area would be well advised to lodge a complaint with the SE so as to help raise awareness. More @
