The Advertising Standards Authority has upheld a complaint against an advert for BT Communicator, which was sent to users of BT Broadband. The complainant felt that the claim "free UK Calls" was misleading since the service used up most of the monthly 1GB usage allowance for his BT Broadband Basic package:
The Authority told the advertisers not to describe calls that depleted a consumer's usage allowance as "free" and to state prominently in advertisements for BT Communicator that making telephone calls depleted a consumer's broadband usage allowance.
This is also a good example of just how easy it can be to deplete an overly strict usage allowance.
