Wi-Fi Hotspot operator BTOpenzone has announced a new wave of price reductions, which will become effective from 1st September next month. It's hoped that the move will boost demand, although others doubt it can succeed:
New subscribers will pay the reduced rate of £5 for 250 minutes per month or £15 for 4,000 minutes, for the first three months. After this initial period the tariff will return to the normal rate.
Currently users can expect to pay £10 per month for 250 minutes, whilst a 4,000 minute subscription costs £25.
Users will have to sign up before 30 November in order to get the promotional discount. Lars Godell, principal analyst for Forrester, said the price reduction was "great news" for wireless broadband users. However, he thought that it would not encourage new users to take up wireless broadband in the short term, as price is not the only consideration.Sadly the reductions are only part of a temporary promotion, with prices returning to normal after a few months. We fear that this will simply not be enough to make casual Wi-Fi surfers anymore interested, time will tell. More @
