Pipex Tout New Broadband Packages

Posted: 08th Sep, 2005 By: MarkJ
UPDATE: Added further LLU details. Pipex has introduced three new broadband packages, which couple a hi-speed service to free voice calls. The options start with a £14.99 per month 2Mbps (1GB cap) service that includes 500 minutes of inclusive calls. There's also a little detail on its 8 and 24Mbps future:

New customers can choose the level of service and budget that suits them from three options. All three provide free broadband set up and free modem, plus an allowance of free local and national voice calls per month that can be made from existing BT telephone lines, a package worth over £100.

The Three Options:

PIPEX Start

At just £14.99* per month for a 2Mb service PLUS the option of 500 minutes of inclusive telephone calls absolutely free1. Users get 1GB of free usage allowance per month. That's enough to download two full-length feature films, around 470 audio files or 650 photos. If this gives customers the downloading bug, extra usage can be purchased at extremely low rates as and when required. This is a great product for new or lighter users.

PIPEX 1000

At £19.99* for six months and £23.99* thereafter, this service offers customers speeds of 1Mb during peak times (evenings), and a boost of power to 2Mb during the day, with no download restrictions2. To allow customers the chance to experience the full 2Mb service, this will be available 24 hours a day until 15 October. In addition to the Broadband service PIPEX is offering 1,000 minutes of telephone calls per month as a free optional extra1. Ideal for the more regular user, families or those who surf by day.

PIPEX 2000

Starting at just £27.99* for six months and £33.99* thereafter, this super fast service gives customers 2Mb of speed day or night, with no download restrictions2. PLUS there are 2,000 minutes of optional free telephone calls1. An excellent service for those that want to make the most of everything broadband has to offer.

* ALL PRICES QUOTED ARE FOR PAYMENT BY DIRECT DEBIT

1 All inclusive call minutes are optional and free of charge. If calls are not taken up, the overall cost of the package does not alter. Free calls relate to 01 and 02 numbers only.

2 subject to acceptable use policy.

PIPEX High Speed Trial

These new product announcements follow PIPEX’ successful completion of the first phase of an 8Mb Broadband trial. PIPEX plans to launch the full service during 2006.

The company has also recently announced its intention to participate in LLU (Local loop unbundling) early in 2006. Some of the features and benefits for customers will include:

• Delivery of Broadband access of up to 24 Mb, facilitating value added content delivery such as HDTV on demand.
• Provision of business grade access services such as 1:1 contention for SDSL access up to 8 Mbs.
• Integrated voice services through both VoIP employing QoS and local breakout.

UPDATE: Some 60 exchanges will be unbundled, specifically high population ones with around 400+ customers that are within 5KM of Pipex's core network.
