Commuters that travel on the London-to-Scotland east coast main line, which is currently owned by GNER, may be pleased to learn that they'll soon be getting FREE Wi-Fi (wireless) broadband Internet access on the journey.

National Express are currently in the process of acquiring GNER for £1.4bn and plans to take over related rail route's by the end of December this year. Typically GNER has been running Wi-Fi on its trains for awhile but it's only free to 'First CLASS' travellers.

The new owner has thus pledged to extend FREE Wi-Fi to passengers in standard class as well. The 2Mbps on-board link (shared between passengers) is delivered by a combination of satellite and mobile 3G/GPRS networks.
