People.co.uk has reported that 75 year old Oswald Connor was left without a TalkTalk broadband connection for a full year after signing up. Despite forking out £26 per month for the nonexistent service, TalkTalk only helped following media pressure to do so:
But the bungling firm never got him online despite countless phone calls and letters of complaint. Finally, after 12 months of his complaints falling on deaf ears, Oswald contacted the Sheriff and our straight-talking lawman phoned Carphone Warehouse to demand action.
A technician was dispatched within the hour - swiftly followed by a grovelling apology from Car phone Warehouse. A spokesman explained: "We are very, very sorry. It's out of the ordinary for someone to wait so long. We're now investigating how this could happen." When the technician reported his findings, it turned out that Oswald lived too far away from a telephone exchange to get broadband.
Carphone Warehouse admitted: "We should have known from the point of sale that the customer wasn't eligible." The firm said it didn't have any record of Oswald's complaints.
Thankfully the situation has ended well and Oswald was compensated, unfortunately such a serious lapse in customer support can not be so easily forgiven.
12 months is utterly ridiculous and the provider should have given the guy a free car for all the trouble they put him through; Internet access is often essential and consumers should NEVER be treated like this.
