The London Internet Exchange (LINX) has threatened to "snub" ISP MCI WorldCom, which it accused of being responsible for hosting Send Safe, a tool that helps spammers to send junk e-mail:
"Send Safe's product clearly provides features that are designed to make spamming easier. As such this is exactly the kind of product we are trying to stop," said Malcolm Hutty, regulation officer at LINX.
"ISPs depend on voluntary mutual cooperation for the effective functioning of their core business. ISPs that ignore community standards risk losing the cooperation of their peers, which is more valuable than any one customer could ever be," Hutty added.
An MCI official told ZDNet UK that the Send Safe Web site was hosted by a company that leased a line from it. MCI also says that it does not censor the content of its customer Web sites.LINX appears to have its 170 strong ISP membership and anti-spam group Spamhaus behind it. Many in the anti-SPAM community strongly campaign against the 'Send Safe' software. More @
