Orange (formerly
Wanadoo, which itself use to be known as Freeserve, still with me?) has finally revealed the details of its new "FREE" broadband promotion. Funny thing about it being "FREE" is that you still have to pay for it:
The headline grabbing part of this converged comms provider is the offer of "free broadband" for customers who spend at least £30 a month on an Orange mobile contract. While there is no connection fee, customers still need to shell out around a tenner a month for line rental. There's also a 2 gig a month cap for the service and punters are tied into an 18 month contract.
However, the offer does come complete with a wireless router and Orange's rebranded VoIP package. For an extra £6 a month, customers can sign up to the new Orange Anytime package which gives them free calls to UK landlines. So, if we've got this right, to have a 2GB capped "free" broadband product you must spend £30+ per month on a mobile phone contract (do ordinary folk really spend that much?) and roughly £10 for the line rental. Free? Really? Hmmmm.
The package itself will be available from 1st June (tomorrow), the same day
Wanadoo re-brands to become 'Orange'. Orange will also be introducing a 'trial' 1Mbps broadband package, allowing users 30 days usage without being locked into a contract. More @
The Register.
Expect to find
Wanadoo here tomorrow:
