BT's new 8Mbps MAX ADSL product has officially gone live today, with Entanet becoming the latest ISP to tout service upgrades:
New subscribers to Entanets current MAX PAYG and MAX Allowance services will take advantage of these higher speeds from 31 March 2006. In addition, customers can opt for the recently introduced Extreme service, which delivers the highest speed the line can sustain with the additional benefit of unlimited usage.
Entanet will begin upgrading existing connections from 24 April 2006 and the process is likely to take between five and six months says Davies. We would hope that by September this year all of our existing connections will have been upgraded to the higher speed products and customers and Partners will be reaping the benefits.
The press release isn't specific enough as to whether - "8Mbps download speeds at no extra cost" - means that EntaNet will upgrade all existing customers for free. The assumption from the above wording is that they will.
It's worth pointing out that those still stuck on slower speed broadband ADSL connections may be able to go slightly higher when upgraded. Readers should ask their ISP to see whether their service will actually be improved or not.
