UK ISP Biscit has adopted webPLUG technology, enabling users to connect their machines to the Internet from any room, office or public space using the electric wires of a mains socket:
The plug and play product provides a more stable and faster connection to the net than wireless cards, and eliminates the need for any special wiring or additional modems for an Internet connection in homes, B&B guest rooms or business centres. It also allows the transfer of information between computers in a home or office.
The rationale behind webPLUG is simple. Why clutter up the office or house with network cabling when a "network" already exists in every room - the mains power circuit? And if you're using a computer or games console, you'll plug it in for power anyway.
With Biscit's webPLUG, anyone can transform a home or an office's power circuits into a Local Area Network at speeds of up to 85Mbps. You first add a webPLUG to the router of the home's lead Internet connection point, then add a webPLUG to a computer in any room, or any number of computers in the home, plug them in, and all share the Internet connection and resources. No software, setting up, or networking expertise necessary and it's platform agnostic MAC or Windows.
You'll need two webPLUGs to get your home, B&B or office up and running on electric wires and the initial cost is £89,00 for the pair (£79 if you order via Biscit's website http://www.biscit.net). Additional units retail at £44.50 (website - £39.50) each. Contact Biscit sales on 0870 383 0030, or by email sales@biscit.net. Prices are inclusive VAT, packing and postage. Delivery from stock.Clued up readers may note that similar products can be found on the open market, albeit branded differently. Its worth pointing out that such products are also susceptible to speed fluctuations, much like Wi-Fi, depending on how a particular building is wired.
