H2O Networks, specialist providers of fibre optic networks via the UK's sewer system, has just completed roll out of a new communications infrastructure at Tendring District Council.
The new infrastructure will provide a high speed data link between the council's three buildings - the Town Hall, Leisure Centre and the Council Depot - which means that information can be shared easily to allow Tendring citizens' enquiries to be answered and dealt with quickly:
"When looking for a partner to replace this part of our communication infrastructure we were keen to ensure that disruption caused by digging up the roads, be kept to an absolute minimum. We were also looking for a cost effective, high capacity, resilient solution that would link our three locations," commented Tom Canfield, Strategic ICT Manager, Tendring District Council.
He continued: "We were able to make significant capital cost savings by partnering with H2O Networks, as its deployment method is at least 80% faster than traditional cabling companies. This meant the work was completed very quickly and cost us considerably less than had we gone down the traditional route."
The fibre cable is fixed into the sewer, which lies at depths of up to 5m below the ground compared with 450mm for conventional cables. This makes the infrastructure far more secure, particularly in disaster recovery situations, which means that households, businesses and organisations are unlikely to suffer downtime due to severed cables.
