Customers of
Tiscali UK, including several of its other brands (
Nildram,
Pipex etc.), have reportedly found it increasingly difficult to both access and view videos on the popular
YouTube website.
The problems appeared to begin just over two weeks ago when the otherwise responsive site began streaming videos so slowly that it became virtually unusable. To make matters worse the site will sometimes become almost totally unreachable during peak hours.
Customers have predictably accused
Tiscali of selectively throttling YouTube traffic, a move that would be incredibly unpopular but no doubt save on their bandwidth bills. However, despite initial denials from support staff,
Tiscali has now confirmed that an issue exists and offered us the following statement:
Statement: "We do currently have a problem in routing traffic through one of our international peering partners. We are working to restore this and looking to re-route this traffic in the short term."
Unfortunately
Tiscali were not able to provide ISPreview with an exact timetable for remedying the problem, which may cause further customer frustration. Some limited information suggests that a number of other UK ISPs may have also been impacted by this, albeit to a lesser degree.
