PlusNet recently posted another one of its interesting
Community Page updates, which highlighted a new spike in traffic from the BBC's iPlayer Internet TV (IPTV) service. The cause for this sudden increase in demand appears to come from users that logged on to watch Thursdays opening Olympic Games ceremony:
We are currently seeing around 600Mbps of iPlayer traffic, with the Olympics stream being roughly 430kbps per customer when you deduct off the normal volume of iPlayer traffic around 1,500 of our customers are watching the Olympics via their broadband connections.
PlusNet expects that traffic from the BBC's iPlayer service will probably continue to be above normal until the games conclude.
