BSkyB (
Sky Broadband) has released its latest set of half year results to 31st December 2008. The groups
Sky Broadband service managed to buck the downward trend of its rivals by added an extra 163,000 new broadband subscribers in Q4, thus going from a total of 1.792m in September to 1.955m in December 2008:
Jeremy Darroch, Chief Executive, said: In a very challenging economic environment, we have delivered a great set of results by focusing on quality, value and service for our customers. Overall customer growth is up year on year and we are selling more products across the board, including record growth in Sky+HD.
Good cost control has allowed us to turn our operational performance into very strong financial results, with 6% growth in revenue, 26% growth in operating profit and 34% growth in earnings per share."
Today only 13% of Sky's customers take a bundle of all three TV, broadband and telephony services. Regular readers will recall that Sky raised its broadband prices last year but not for those taking their SkyTalk package(s), thus encourage more voice/bundled service uptake.
The interim report also reveals that Sky will move to full unbundling in the second half of 2009, thus reducing costs. They also plan to widen their communications services by including more line rental and new telephone line installation services, including to former cable customers.
