BSkyB has confirmed Monday's news, in which a raft of new price increases to the operators popular
Sky Broadband service were proposed (
details). It's also understood that new customers will still receive the existing prices regardless of whether they choose Sky Talk Freetime (no monthly fee) or Sky Talk Unlimited (£5 per month):
In a statement to
SkyUser, BSkyB said, "
Not only are more customers choosing Sky than any other broadband provider, but more and more of you are bundling together your TV, broadband and home phone services. Were responding to this growing trend by adjusting our pricing so that the biggest savings are available to those customers who take Sky TV, Sky Broadband and Sky Talk together.
Most of our Sky Broadband customers already take all three services and so the planned changes will have no impact on them at all. As a Sky Talk customer, you will continue to make the biggest savings on your Sky Broadband service with no change to your monthly subscription."
Technically speaking, since Sky Talk Freetime is a free add-on, most customers will be able to switch over to that and maintain their current charges without increase. Naturally Sky will use this to improve their voice services uptake. The changes will have no affect on Skys Broadband MAX package.
