SkyUser reports that they have been "
tipped off" about a number of proposed price increases to BSkyB's popular
Sky Broadband products. Sky currently operates the following broadband packages and monthly prices, which are only available when taken with Sky's satellite TV service:
- Base (2Mbps / 2GB Usage Allowance) - FREE
- Mid (8Mbps / 40GB) - £5
- Max (16Mbps / Unlimited) - £10
- Connect (8Mbps / 40GB [BT based]) - £17
However the unofficial information states that these prices would rise by £5 per month for almost every package from March 2009, reducing back to normal levels where customers adopt Sky Talk as well (triple play - TV, broadband and phone):
- Base - £5 or FREE with Sky Talk
- Mid - £10 or £5 with Sky Talk
- Max - £15 or £10 with Sky Talk
- Connect - £17 (no increase or requirement for Sky Talk)
Further unconfirmed information suggests that existing customers (before 20th November) of Base, Mid and Max with HD or Multi-room will automatically receive a 10 month discount of £5 per month. The new prices will not be effective for these customers until 1st January 2010.
Typically this information should be taken with a pinch of salt until it can be confirmed. Customers of Sky will already be use to the operator springing surprise price increases upon them, although they are clearly trying to promote their voice services. However it is not yet clear which of the Talk packages would be required to keep Skys existing prices as there is a free option available.
