GfK Group has issued its latest statistics for
Mobile Broadband USB Modem (Dongle) sales. The data shows that 149,000 such devices were sold during September, which compares with 55,000 in January 2008.
This is a strong indication of how well consumers have adapt to the new technology, somewhat eclipsing the otherwise migration fuelled movements in comparable land-line broadband services.
However this is not the peak, with GfK pointing to a previously reported spike of 163,000 units sold during July. Meanwhile 76% of
Mobile Broadband users are still on contract based services, leaving just 24% with 'pay as you go' (PAYG) deals.
However it is worth pointing out that the uptake of true payg has only recently taken hold after
T-Mobile and
Three (3) launched a range of better priced options with fewer constraints, causing a significant rise in uptake.
Three (3) is also believed to hold 50% of all sales.
