BT Group has released its latest quarterly results to 30th September 2008, which reveals that they have managed to rack up 4.6m retail broadband (
BT Total Broadband,
PlusNet etc.) customers. This growth compares with 4.5m in Q2 and 4.4m in Q1 of 2008:
We had 13.3 million wholesale broadband connections (DSL and
LLU) at September 30, 2008, including 5.1 million local loop unbundled lines. There were 258,000 net additional broadband connections in the quarter. Our retail share of those net additions was 27%. In the maturing broadband market, we remain the UKs number one retail broadband provider with a customer base of 4.6 million.
BTs retail market share of the DSL and
LLU installed base was 34% at September 30, 2008.
Broadband revenue grew by 12 per cent year on year, with net additions of 69,000 in the second quarter, taking us to 4.6 million customers, and retaining our status as the UKs most popular broadband supplier.
Sadly the operator has also revealed that 10,000 jobs would be cut by the end of this financial year (March 2009), with most coming from agency, contract staff and offshore workers.
BT's global workforce stands at 160,000 and 4,000 of the cuts have already been made.
BT's broadband Internet TV (IPTV) service,
BT Vision, has also managed to top 340,000 customers, an increase from 282,000 in the previous quarter.
