Philip Rosedale, the outgoing CEO and founder of '
Second Life' (Linden Lab), a popular massively multiplayer online virtual world, has warned that take-up of next generation web applications could be hindered by a lack of faster broadband services.
Rosedale warned that existing web applications, including modern video sites such as YouTube, had been designed with older infrastructure in mind. He concludes that future services would require something more capable than existing broadband technology.
Linden Lab recently confirmed that its board of directors has named Mark Kingdon to serve as chief executive officer. In his new role, Kingdon will lead the day-to-day management and operations of the company, working closely alongside Philip Rosedale in his remaining position as chairman.
