O2 (Be) has signed a new deal with BT Wholesale, allowing the ISP to extend its fixed-line broadband coverage nationwide. The provider had previously only operated over an unbundled (
LLU) network external from BT's more expensive alternative.
In addition O2 has also launched new business broadband services and a whopping £6m marketing campaign. Naturally those forced to connect through the more expensive BT based (non-
LLU) lines will have to pay a few pounds more per month for the same service:
From 1st May O2 Home Broadband Access will be available in homes throughout the UK using BTs wholesale network to reach would-be O2 Home and Business Broadband customers in areas where the local BT telephone exchange has not been unbundled.
Customers signing up to this service will use the BT network to connect but will benefit from O2s excellent broadband customer service wrap including:-
- Free UK-based 24/7 customer service
- Unlimited downloads
- Free connection & wireless router included
O2s Home Broadband Access package will cost from £17.50 per month for O2 customers, representing excellent value for customers when compared to similar services delivered over BTs wholesale network by competitor providers. Prices for O2 Home Broadband delivered over O2s
LLU network start from £7.50 per month for O2 customers.
The operators new business packages will include all the benefits of O2s Home Broadband service as well as additional features. These include 5 x McAfee security licenses, enhanced service support for business (on site in-life support), a static IP address (not available on Access) and dual SSID. Business prices start from £15 per month for O2 customers, £20 for new customers and £25 for those not covered by O2s unbundled network.
