Tiscali Chief Expects Sale Within Two Years

Tiscali's chief executive, Tommaso Pompei, expects that the ISP could be bought up by rivals sometime in the next two years. However Pompei appeared adamant that the provider itself was not for sale and is instead concentrating on the execution of its 2008 strategy:
During recent years the UK's market has been awash with industry consolidation, especially at the top end. The aggressive market climate means that there could certainly be more to come and Tiscali has long been the subject of sale speculation.
Mr Pompei predicted a second wave of consolidation in the coming two years. "We do expect to be part of this process," he told the Financial Times.
He added that Tiscali had previously received expressions of interest in its UK operations, although no negotiations were taking place.
"This year for sure we'll be 100 per cent focused on our results, but we are prepared to react should the consolidation take place," Mr Pompei said.
