The UK's official government advice service,
Consumer Direct, has released its latest statistics and reveals that complaints about ISP's have grown by 43% since 2006 to 13,536. Overall, Consumer Direct answered more than 1.5m calls and emails from people in 2007 and logged 819,815 complaints on its database, up 18% from the previous year.
However Consumer Direct is still relatively new and the growth in complaints has perhaps got less to do with ISP's and more with greater recognition of the services existence. Not that it would matter, complaints about ISP's may be increasing but they're still at the bottom of its top 10:
1. Second hand cars purchased from independent dealers (+18%)
2. Mobile Phones (service agreements) (+49%)
3. TVs (+14%)
4. Mobile Phones (hardware) (+9%)
5. Personal Goods and Services (other) (+29%)
6. General building work (other) (+2%)
7. Car repairs and servicing from independent garage (+11%)
8. Upholstered furniture (+4%)
9. Internet Service Providers (+43%)
10. Second hand cars purchased from franchise dealer (+11)
The service claims that over half the callers to Consumer Direct who successfully resolved their complaint saved more than £100 per person.
