ISPAs 2005 UK Internet Industry Awards

Posted: 23rd Aug, 2004 By: MarkJ
The UK Internet Service Providers Association (ISPA) has today launched the 2005 ISPAs (UK Internet Industry Awards). Eight new award categories have been introduced this year, such as Best Data Centre, Best Portal and six Broadband categories (Best Light Consumer Broadband etc.):

Purple Sun has been commissioned for the second year running, to analyse, monitor and test entrants in the ISP Division on a criteria including connection time, connection speed , upload and download speed, and DNS time. Entrants in the Hosting award will be given a file they will place on their hosting server, which will be periodically downloaded to measure availability and non-cached download speed. The performance testing and service monitoring period has been more than tripled for The 2005 ISPAs .

The Suppliers Division will be assessed by a focus group from representatives of the ISPA membership. This focus group will select the shortlists and eventual winners in each category.

For your chance to win…

Entrance to the ISP Division will open on 14th September 2004. Potential entrants will have two weeks to enter and to register with Purple Sun.

The closing date for the Supplier Division and for the ISP Division entrants supporting information will be the 30th November 2004.

For the first year, entrants to the ISP division have been invited to attend pre-registration briefing meetings to be hosted by the Press Association on the 3rd and 13th September 2004. Attendees will be instructed on entry requirements and how each category's assessment process will work. Entrants will also receive The 2005 ISPAs entry pack and learn how to better their chances of performing well in the assessment. Further information about the pre-registration briefing meetings can be found online at www.ispaawards.org.uk .

To enter the awards, companies should select the category they wish to enter, fill out the supporting information forms and arrange testing by Purple Sun if applicable. Entry criteria and further information about the Awards can be found online at http://www.ispaawards.org.uk .

The awards aren't without criticism, with some feeling that the testing for ISP's is too thin to be an effective gauge of quality. Hopefully the extended monitoring period will help allay some of those fears.

Regardless of that, the awards ceremony and gala dinner will be held in London during February next year.
