UK operator and ISP Kingston Communications has teamed up with Telsis to enhance its network for dialup (ISDN) customers, which is apparently a "growing" area of their business:
Intelligent protocol converters from Telsis are helping Kingston Communications meet consumer demand across the UK for dial-up Internet access.
Two Telsis Ocean iPCs, each with a capacity of 128 E1 connections, convert data calls, presented by Kingstons core network System X switches using SS7 signalling, onto ISDN circuits for delivery to Internet Service Providers. The move has enabled the operator to free legacy hardware for voice traffic while simultaneously improving capacity and quality of service for data.
Brian Gilbert, Kingstons head of network development explains: Dial up access to the Internet is still growing but ISPs want to connect to us using ISDN. Protocol converters are much more cost-effective in this role than the concentrators we have been using. We chose Telsis on price, specification and speed of delivery. The deployment has given us a highly flexible new resource.
In common with all Telsis equipment, the Ocean iPC is a carrier-grade platform with a remarkably small footprint. It can convert a wide range of industry standard and proprietary signalling schemes and is particularly relevant to operators who use switch concentrators to route high volume traffic.
