It's become somewhat of a repetitive statement, yet the Prime Minister, Tony Blair, has once again pledged to end the UK's broadband digital divide if re-elected. Luckily it's one pledge that should come true:
Blair told delegates at the Labour Party conference that if re-elected in the General Election, expected next year, he wants to 'end the digital divide' and ensure broadband is available to every home that wants it by 2008.
The pledge is part of a list of 10 things Labour will provide if elected for a third consecutive term.Thankfully broadband is now able to reach a majority portion of the UK and BT's new rollout scheme should make the pledge an easy success story for the government (even if they only ever did a small amount to help).
Similarly the governments e-commerce minister, Stephen Timms, also highlighted the increased broadband coverage and uptake.
Perhaps while theyre ranting and raving about how the success is all their doing, they could fix the small matter of ISPs potentially going out of business due to BTs dubious price hikes? More @
