Amazon UK's managing director, Robin Terrell, has blamed a lack of broadband for holding back online retailing. It's a point that some would choose to disagree on:
Terrell said reliance on slow 56kbit/s internet connections may have prevented many people from buying online.
"We may have millions of active customers - about 35 million at the end of this year's second quarter - but there are many more internet users that have never shopped with us, and many people that have not used the internet at all," he said.
"To date there are issues with adoption, but it's such an early stage for the industry. Fast forward five or 10 years and the potential is enormous."VNUNet's item is an interesting one, especially since people shouldn't need a broadband connection for online shopping.
Surely a website is quite poor if it requires at least a 512Kbps connection to use it properly? Perhaps Mr Terrell is thinking about higher density (quality) content advertising? What do you think?
