The latest research from ABI has predicted that the total number of global broadband wireless LAN (Wi-Fi) hotspots will hit 160,000 by 2007:
ABI says the market has the potential for a 121 per cent cumulative average annual growth rate over the next five years.
Some of the issues facing the hotspot industry range from interoperability between hotspot locations to the need for operators and aggregators to acquire more users. Selling Wi-Fi services combined with cellular and other operator offerings could help stimulate consumer interest in hotspots, says ABI.The current total stands at something closer to 28,000, although ABI's prediction comes at a time when many are highlighting their concerns about the technology.
High prices, poor security and connection issues have and continue to hamper Wi-Fi. More @
