BT has announced a new challenge to search for local champions, across the UK, who are making the most innovative use of broadband ADSL Internet access:
Broadband Britain Challenge launched to find local champions
BT has announced a challenge to search for local champions across the UK who make the most innovative use of broadband ADSL. The challenge will seek out Britains most advanced and creative ADSL broadband users so that they can inspire others, whether at work, home, education, or at leisure.
The Broadband Britain Challenge is open to businesses and individuals to enter, and will also see search teams scouring local communities to find outstanding ADSL users. The challenge will culminate in a national final in London on September 12, 2003, when Britains best Broadband Champions will be honoured at a high profile ceremony.
Philippa Winterburn, head of broadband marketing, BT Wholesale said, "We believe the way to drive the development of Broadband Britain is at the grass roots level. Were firmly committed to achieving the governments aim of Broadband Britain and having the most dynamic broadband market by the G8 by 2005. Im confident the Broadband Britain Challenge will play a key role in boosting knowledge and uptake of ADSL."
The Broadband Britain Challenge judging panel will be chaired by Dr Michael Barrett, Judge Institute of Management Studies, University of Cambridge, who will be particularly looking for users who are able to show how to transfer their knowledge easily to others.
The challenge has the following categories:
Education
Voluntary/ Not For Profit/ Charity
Public sector
Businesses (up to 250 employees)
Large corporations
Home Users
Youth
The national judges include: Professor Ted Wragg from the University of Exeters School of Education; Stuart Etherington, Chief Executive of the National Council of Voluntary Organisations (NCVO); Lord Tony Newton, Chairman of the Institute of Directors; Professor Tony Davies who is the BT Professor of Electronic Commerce at Cardiff University; Andrea Kilbourne, Managing Director for EMAP Performance Interactive, EMAP Digital; Anthony Capstick, author, businessman and founders of Instantsearch.com and Professor Richard Kerley, Dean of the Faculty of Business and Art at Queen Margaret University College, Edinburgh.
Philippa Winterburn also said, "Everyone has the potential to be a champion and this is why we wanted to turn to the local communities across the UK to find the best and brightest ADSL users. This is not only to honour these exceptional individuals, but also to use their success to provide inspiration to others. We want to give them the recognition they deserve and make them champions in their local communities and were very pleased to be able to announce the campaign today."
