THUS is to supply Jessops, one of Europe's leading photographic retailers, with 90 broadband ADSL connections for the rollout of Digital Photo Kiosks in its stores:

THUS HELPS JESSOPS CAPTURE DIGITAL CAMERA PRINT BUSINESS WITH NEW BROADBAND ENABLED PHOTO KIOSKS

THUS plc, one of the UK's leading providers of voice, data, Internet and contact centre services, today announced that it has been selected by Jessops, Europe's leading photographic retailer, to provide 90 ADSL broadband connections for the rollout of Digital Photo Kiosks in its stores, building upon existing business to provide voice services across all its sites and branches. The THUS enabled broadband Digital Photo Kiosks, launched in July this year, will be the first of their kind to be rolled out across the UK. The kiosks are compatible with all forms of digital media (makes and models of digital camera) and will provide consumers with an easy-to-use and reliable way to purchase professionally printed digital photographs without having to invest in expensive printing equipment.

The broadband Digital Photo Kiosks, which use 20:1 contended ADSL service supplied by THUS, will help position Jessops as the leading processor of digital photos in the UK. More than one million digital cameras are sold a year in the UK and digital camera owners are expected to make up 54 percent of all camera owners by 2004, according to specialist digital imaging market research group InfoTrends. THUS's broadband service provides Jessops with the cost effective bandwidth required to transmit consumers' digital photos between its European sites for processing.

Consumers using the Digital Photo Kiosks, download digital pictures from their cameras memory card, select the size, quantity and finish of prints required. The images are then transmitted to a wholesale photofinishing laboratory and printed using the latest technology before being returned to the Jessops store for collection by the customer.

"This is an excellent example of a broadband service which is innovative and generates real end user value," said Nigel Stevens, Product Director, THUS plc. "This type of broadband deployment helps businesses to maximise the productivity and service benefits that broadband delivers."

"We are increasingly becoming a nation of digital camera users, most people do not have the equipment required to produce quality prints or the time to do it," said Alistair Brown, Business Development Manager, Jessops. "The versatility of digital photos is great, but people still want printed photographs to frame and give to friends and family. The broadband Digital Photo Kiosks, enabled by THUS, will for the first time give the mass market the means to get the very most from their digital camera."
