The latest report from Analysys suggests that small and medium sized enterprise (SME) customers will be looking for more value-added services on their broadband package:
Not only do value-added services provide resellers with a means of differentiation, they will improve average revenue per user levels, according to the analyst. The report estimates that the market for value-added services in Europe will grow from 1.1bn in 2003 to 10.3bn in 2008.
"The critical decision for operators is whether or not to develop the value-added services market," said the report's author, Margaret Hopkins.
"For large players, scale economies may be a more important route to increased margins, while for small players the increased average revenue per user levels derived from value-added services could provide a lifeline."The
VNUNet item states that, until now, most ISPs have been busy tweaking their basic connectivity offerings (a sensible move). Security systems such as firewall, anti-virus and anti-SPAM services may be of particular interest.
