BTs chief executive, Pierre Danon, has launched an attack on Project Atlas, Scottish Enterprises controversial £30 million broadband Internet access project:
He told The Scotsman that BT could make an official complaint to the European Commission, accusing Scottish Enterprise (SE) of contravening state aid rules.
Project Atlas aims to link 13 business parks with neutral broadband access which can be used by any telecoms operator. SE claims the project is a justified response to market failure and will offer more choice and lower prices for up to 500 companies.
But Mr Danon, in Edinburgh to meet the Scottish Executive to discuss increasing broadband take-up, said: "We are very, very unhappy about Project Atlas. It is an infrastructure project and Scottish Enterprise need to be careful. It could prove to be tricky, expensive and difficult to manage. They should let telecom companies deal with infrastructure."
Telecom companies like.. perhaps.. say.. BT? Despite this, BT isn't the only one angry at the Scottish Enterprise (SE). Glasgow-based Telecoms company THUS has also made similar complaints. More in The Scotsman Newspaper.
