Edinburgh-based business ISP edNET has begun offering residents of the Scottish Borders access to a broadband Internet connection:
edNET brings broadband to the Scottish Borders
edNET, the Edinburgh-based, business class ISP is now offering residents of the Scottish Borders access to a fast and reliable broadband connection. Working through Scottish Borders Rural Broadband Ltd, a subsidiary of Scottish Enterprise Borders, edNET will bring broadband to an area starved of this increasingly vital means of communication. Access will initially be offered in Newtown St Boswells, Coldstream, Earlston and Kelso. They will be joined by Duns and Eyemouth, plus three other locations in the spring of 2004.
Aydin Kurt-Elli, edNETs Chief Executive and founder said:
"edNET is delighted to be selected for the Scottish Borders Rural Broadband project. With inclusive services such as automatic virus and spam filtering and innovations such as Voice over IP, which delivers telephone calls over the internet, we are confident that edNET can add real value to the Borders business community.
As the only Scottish ISP remaining on the Ofcom/BT panel which is negotiating for access to exchanges for the deployment of broadband services, we are particularly pleased to part of this action."
Since its establishment in 1995, edNET has earned a solid reputation as a serious business-class ISP, providing reliable and cost-effective internet access and hosting solutions. The company has achieved consistent and sustained growth, resulting in recognition in both the Deloitte & Touch Scotland Fast 50 and the European listing, for the past four years.
David Gass, Chief Executive of Scottish Enterprise Borders said:
This is an important project for the Borders. The infrastructure used by Internet Service Providers such as edNET is being delivered by Scottish Enterprise Borders to trial the provision of alternative broadband services in areas too rural for ADSL or cable broadband. The trial will run for two years, with the opportunity to extend for a further three. The infrastructure is a wholesale network that enables any ISPs, signed up and connected through Scolocate in Edinburgh, to offer broadband services to businesses and homes in nine Borders towns.
Borders residents can visit the website http://www.broadbandforscotland.co.uk and use the postcode checker to find out if service is available at their address. Further information can be obtained from edNET on 0845 1199 911 or from the project helpline on 0845 644 2604.
