Aramiska and eHotspot to bring broadband relief to 200 rural communities without upgrading any exchanges
Aramiska partner ehotspot to provide 200 UK rural communities with broadband and demonstrate satellite technology offers a realistic alternative
London, Wednesday 14th July 2004, Aramiska today announced that it has agreed a major deal with ehotspot, to provide a further 200 UK rural communities with Aramiska satellite community broadband. This follows a number of recently agreed community projects in France and Spain and is the second phase of this partnership and follows the successful connection of 50 UK communities earlier in the year.
The proven rural community broadband service only requires a trigger level of 15 people to make installation economically viable and installation is undertaken within 30 days. This means that almost any community can benefit immediately from broadband and the uncertainty associated with the latest local exchange upgrade program is no longer a factor. The service is based on a 12 month contract with an initial installation fee of £149 and an ongoing monthly charge of £29.99 a month per household. Since the launch of the Community broadband service package in October last year, Aramiska has seen considerable growth in this area and is supporting community solutions throughout Europe.
ehotspot uses Aramiskas ARC 2000+ Community broadband service as the backhaul to its system, with 2,048 Kbps downstream and 512 Kbps upstream data transmission speeds. Once the Aramiska backhaul is installed at a central location in the community, each house installation takes one to two hours, using a small six inch square box at roof level that receives the broadband signal.
Aramiska uses DVB-RCS, an open standard satellite technology that provides villages with a fast, always-on Internet connection necessary to download and transmit large data files and run multimedia or other bandwidth-hungry applications.
The provider reports that the first 50 installations are now in place, with a further 200 to be connected shortly.
