Once again BT has aired its intention to use broadband as a delivery platform for TV content; the news follows talks with the BBC and ITV. The project, which is headed by BT Retails CEO Pierre Danon, could help to drive uptake:
BT has approached ITV and BBC about providing content for the project, provisionally called "Sky Plus Plus" - a reference to Sky's personal video recorder, Sky Plus, which enables viewers to record any programme shown over the previous eight days on to a set-top box.
BT wants to host a much larger archive of up to three months of programmes. It would transmit them to customers for viewing using its broadband network.
BT had originally planned a service for October, although this was delayed. Sadly the operator still isn't completely sure about how to deliver the content (e.g. to TV's via Set-top-box or PC's etc.).
Clearly BT still holds a 'broadcasting' goal, yet how they achieve this remains to be seen. Full details can be found by reading yesterdays The Independent newspaper.
