AOL UK Streams Reading Festival

Posted: 25th May, 2004 By: MarkJ
ISP AOL UK has agreed a new deal with the live music promoter, Mean Fiddler. The agreement will allow them to stream audio-visual footage to members direct from the main stage at the Carling Weekend: Reading Festival:

Mean Fiddler and AOL UK agree exclusive online relationship for Carling Weekend: Reading Festival

AOL will bring the best of Reading to its members following an agreement with live music promoter, Mean Fiddler to be the exclusive online media partner for the Carling Weekend: Reading Festival, taking place between 27-29 August 2004.

Under the terms of the agreement, AOL will stream audio-visual footage from the main stage at the event, where acts such as The Darkness, The White Stripes and 50 Cent have already been confirmed to appear. The footage will not be available elsewhere online, giving AOL members exclusive access to performances from many of the world’s top acts.

For the first time at Reading, the event will also be home to a Sessions@AOL tent backstage, where selected artists will perform acoustic tracks and carry out interviews, which will all be recorded exclusively for AOL members.

Blair Schooff, Executive Director of AOL Music, AOL UK commented: “Reading showcases the finest live talent around, and this year we can ensure AOL members get the best of the Reading experience, whether they’re lucky enough to be going, or from the comfort of their own homes.”

The footage will be available in the new AOL Festivals area (AOL Keyword: Festivals), which will house information on all the main music festivals happening over the summer, including a dedicated Reading section. The content will be available to both narrowband and broadband AOL members, with broadband users receiving access to extra tracks from each featured artist.

The Reading section will also include links to message boards, members’ reviews of the festival and photo galleries created by You’ve Got PicturesÔ, an online photo service available with AOL 9.0, the latest version of the AOL service.

Prior to the event, AOL members will also have the chance to win weekend VIP tickets not available to the general public, and the opportunity to visit the backstage Sessions@AOL tent so that they can enjoy a private concert with their favourite bands.
