BT Retail and Yahoo! have given all broadband and most narrowband (dialup) account customers a boost to their e-mail storage capacity, going from 50MB to 2GB (40 times bigger):
BT BEEFS UP STORAGE IN TIME FOR SUMMER HOLS
BT Retail and Yahoo! have dramatically improved mail services for all BT Yahoo! Broadband and narrowband customers, kicking off with a boost to mail storage capacity.
With immediate effect, all broadband and most narrowband accounts will increase from the current 50MB level to 2GB (40 times bigger than previously). Secondary mail accounts will increase from 10MB to 100MB. That means more room for downloads such as music or summer holiday photos. These changes make BT the only ISP in the UK to offer such a large level of email storage.
Other improvements to the customer experience include:
Message views webmail customers can sort incoming emails more easily
Greenlist automatically ensures any emails from anyone in the customers personal address book will always get delivered to the inbox, and not to the bulk mail folder
POP Mail Bulk tagging will insert the phrase Bulk: at the start of all emails in the bulk folder. POP mail users who want to access their bulk folder (previously only accessible in webmail) can now download emails from their inbox and bulk folder to their mail client and put the bulk mail into a local bulk folder by setting a simple rule
Bulk mail image blocking set as default for all customers, to block all images shown in emails stored in the bulk folder
Redesign of webmail to make the look and feel easier for customers to navigate
The move will no doubt be seen as a direct response to both a growing technology and, perhaps more importantly, the threat from rival FREE services offering massive capacity.
