UK ISP Eclipse Internet has today issued a new press release highlighting the role it played in helping BT to extend its broadband SDSL services to a further 150 exchanges (total 300):
Eclipse Internet 'We Want Broadband' campaign turns its attention to symmetric broadband
Award-winning broadband provider Eclipse Internet is continuing with its highly successful 'We Want Broadband' campaign to help more business users gain access to symmetric broadband services.
Since the company launched the campaign in January 2003 and it has not only had a significant impact on the rollout of ADSL throughout the UK, but has also been instrumental in helping BT decide which exchanges to include in today's announcement of a further 150 to be enabled for symmetric broadband access (SDSL). To date Eclipse has passed over 4,500 SDSL pre-registrations to BT, all collected through the Eclipse campaign web site at http://www.wewantbroadband.co.uk. Businesses whose local exchanges are not yet enabled, or on the rollout list, can register their interest on the site.
SDSL (Symmetric Digital Subscriber Line) uses the same speed for both receiving and transmitting data and hence is much better suited to the transmission of large files. As a low cost alternative to leased lines it is ideal for a wide variety of business types such as engineering, the media industry and finance that have to both send and receive significant amounts of data. It is also advantageous for any company wishing to use off-site backup of critical data or create virtual private networks.
Peter Hancock, BT Wholesale head of broadband symmetric products said, "We have asked our service provider customers to tell us whereabouts in the UK they have strongest demand for SDSL. This initiative by Eclipse Internet is valuable to BT and will help us shape the next phase of our SDSL rollout."
Commenting on today's announcement by BT, Jomie Carmichael, co-founder and director of Eclipse Internet, said "The success of the 'We want Broadband' campaign to date was a major factor in BT's recent announcement regarding the ADSL enablement of over 1,048 exchanges over the next 12 months. We are delighted that our submission of SDSL registrations has also assisted in the selection of more exchanges to be enabled."
Carmichael continued, "Eclipse Internet is a highly innovativ% company at the leading edge of Internet technology. As a provider of quality solutions to businesses it is important that we are able to offer SDSL in a wide geographical area. As such we are pleased to be able to continue to help influence the availability of this crucial tool for businesses."
