The British Phonographic Industry (BPI) has revealed that it is preparing to issue a press release regarding their stance on legal action against 'illegal' P2P file-sharers. Until now the BPI has only 'cautioned' such individuals:
The group also launched an instant messaging campaign warning uploaders that they should disable file-sharing software on their computers.
"We're not at the point of taking legal action yet and we really hope it can be avoided," Steve Redmond, spokesman at the BPI, told vnunet.com. "The message is that file sharing is damaging the music industry, it's illegal, and those that persist in doing it will face legal action."
But when asked whether legal action was on the cards, Redmond said that an announcement would be made in the next two weeks. The use of P2P itself is not illegal unless abused for the exchange of copyrighted material. More @
