ADSLGuide reports that UK ISP Internet Central (IC), which recently launched a 1 and 2Mbps 50:1 consumer broadband ADSL product, has run into a few problems.
Restrictions on the service, which the ISP has only just become aware of, are preventing some subscribers from using the new offers. IC has issued the following statement:
We have received confirmation (Today Tuesday April 1st 2003) from our supplier that BT have configured the DataStream Circuits so that only 74 exchanges can be enabled per ATM connection. This, as you will probably appreciate, is causing a logistical nightmare.
It is clear to both Internet Central and our partners that this restriction was not known to either party prior to today, and that it differs significantly from our understanding of the published specifications issued by Oftel
While many customers have been provisioned we currently have a backlog of customers awaiting connection.IC is currently devising an interim solution (512Kbps BT IPStream at a reasonable price) and will be contacting all those awaiting their connection just as soon as its practically possible.
Its quite possible that other UK ISPs offering the same service will run into similar problems.
