Tiscali UK has taken a swipe at BTs forthcoming Midband service by highlighting its own offer, although it appears to confuse BTs Midband with a different 256Kbps service:
The ISP, which became the UK's fourth largest after buying up a series of smaller competitors two years ago, says its own midband - an access service slower than broadband and faster than dial-up - has been running since last October.
At 256kps (kilobytes per second), midband is hoped to provide a bridge between dial-up and broadband to give users faster access at a lesser cost or as a route to upgrading to full broadband services. Tiscali says its midband service has been 'very popular', though it declined to give details.
Tiscali CEO Sergio Cellini said: "We are not surprised at the announcement from BT, only that it has been so slow to bring a 256kps service to market."For the record, BTs '
Midband' is an ISDN based product, while the operators forthcoming 256Kbps variant is based off ADSL and has yet to be given an official 'market' title.
It's not clear whether
Europemedia made the mistake or Tiscali, but some could find it confusing.
