The UK Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) watchdog has decided to crack down on SPAM (junk e-mail) by issuing new guidelines:
Companies sending text messages or email adverts will need to get the permission of recipients before they do so under the new rules. The new code also applies to pop-ups and banner ads.
According to email filtering company Brightmail, spam attacks have hit the 6 million mark and in January there were 6,092,514 unique attacks. Adult spam rose by 2 per cent from December 2002 to January 2003 and now represents 18 per cent of all spam.So will this help cut down on the amount of junk e-mail many of us receive? Probably not, especially since most of it comes from outside of the UK. More @
