Local People Honoured in Finals of
Broadband Britain Challenge
A nationwide search for Britain's most innovative DSL broadband users culminated last night (September 12, 2003) in a VIP award ceremony held in London. Twenty-one people from all walks of life, were named Broadband Champions in the national finals of the Broadband Britain Challenge, supported by BT.
The Challenge sets out to find ordinary people and organisations that are doing innovative and extraordinary things with DSL broadband technology so that they can be an inspiration for others. Finalists were chosen from six categories - Businesses, Home Users, Youth, Education, Public Sector and Voluntary/Not for Profit/Charity.
Head of broadband marketing at BT Wholesale, Philippa Winterburn said, "The quality and sheer variety of entries received show that Britons are embracing the high speed benefits of DSL broadband to better their lives. Today's winners are a valuable inspiration to others and it's been an absolute pleasure to give them the recognition they deserve.
DSL broadband usage in Britain has now passed the 1.25 million mark and we are committed to making this high speed technology as widely available as possible. We hope that the stories of the Champions will encourage others to harness the variety of resources now available through DSL broadband."
The national winners, all Champions from the Regional Finals, received their accolades at a VIP awards ceremony held at London's Royal Horticultural Halls, hosted by TV presenter Paul Ross. The full list is too extensive to display here, however we have cut out the 'Home User' section for you:
