The Northamptonshire based UK ISP
Caladan Communications has today told us of how its special broadband wireless project has helped connect Wollaston village up to hi-speed access.
The project, known as '
Village Broadband', is typically in an area where broadband ADSL and cable services have not yet reached. The symmetric (same speed both ways) wireless service costs from upwards of £19.99 per month and is designed to compete with ADSL speeds (512Kbps and up).
It's a basic 'connection-only' method without any e-mail and website space (extra option available), there's also a 12 month contract. Home users are allowed a monthly allowance of 20GigaBytes for data transfers, £2 per GB if this limit is exceeded.
This is another example of how wireless technology can be put to good use in completing the so called last mile of broadband coverage.
