One of our readers (Chris) has reported that
Air-Band, the broadband wireless ISP, has expanded into the Rotherwas, Hereford area. This particular location cannot be covered by ADSL because of infrastructure difficulties.
The new coverage is to be sponsored by the regional development agency, Advantage West Midlands (AWM):
Advantage West Midlands, through a consortium of Rotherwas businesses, have chosen this service as the best value for Rotherwas and as part of this the installation charges will be paid for by the development agency during the first month of implementation.
Air-Band is a high-speed wireless alternative to ADSL. Like other forms of Broadband, Air-band is an always on internet connection, unlike other forms of Broadband, Air-band can also be a synchronous data service, which makes it ideal for hosting, VPN or lease line replacement. Air-Band is provided by the Worcester-based company Serv-IT, who have a large installed base of Wireless customers. The service is expected to launch sometime during November, with residential 1:24 contented packages starting @ £22 per month (£159 Installation) for a 256Kbps package and £27 for 512Kbps. There's also a 12 month contract.
Due to the nature of wireless it's stated that "
If you live in a semi-detached home or flat where your neighbours are also having Air-Band installed the installation cost can be reduced."
