Stuck on a poorly 30mbit connection while waiting with baited breath for FTTP rollout, I was watching the wholesale checker daily waiting for the magic words “FTTP available” and it arrived! Quickly it was time to find a reliable ISP and iDnet was a candidate. I checked the reviews, the features, the fair use policy and the option of a static IP (or more than one of you really need it) so that was that. Ordered on the maximum package and 2 weeks later the order was done! 1000 down and on not a single issue. I’ve downloaded over 50tb already and it’s just rock solid. I even have ipv6 up and running for all my devices which is pretty cool. All running off a RPI with openwrt. Amazing!!

I have to say since I got IDnets FFTH 500 package in, I have never had such fast and stable internet.

The install was booked the service was quick and up and running with no issues.

So far no drops in connection no outages and barely any speed drops.

Highly recommended if you get it in your area.

IDNet has great support but unfortunately if you end up on Zen backhaul then Zen are the weakest link.

Despite being on FTTP and IDNet advertising themselves as the lowest latency UK network, latency can double depending on which routing Zen decides to throw you around, sometimes it is the lowest latency but equally other times it is the highest latency network.

If you are someone that is likely to be using your connection between 1am and 2am regularly, then expect to get interrupted every few weeks whilst Zen throw you off to shuffle everyone around and load balance their network (I assume). IDNet give no indication of these drops, either as a pre-warning of overnight maintenance or any acknowledgment after the fact on their service status pages, and this to me is at odds of what I would expect from a business oriented ISP.

Speeds will also vary depending on which congested or uncongested route you find yourself on with Zen.

IDNet support has said that is how it is with no fix offered, and indeed that is true as Zen customers often complain of the same things.

Great support but let down by using Zen backhaul.

My advice, only consider IDNet if you get it confirmed they will connect you using anyone other than Zen, if not, you might as well just go to Zen directly and see if you can save some money.

i have suffered poor latency shifts by as much as 200% at times between disconnections and repeat disconnections and drops in session for months since joining idnet. speeds when this happens are poor until a reconnect.

idnet have put me on a zen backhaul and after recent discussions with others on thinkbroadband, it seems to be an inherent issue with this service.

the price idnet charge seems to suggest premium quality but it couldn't be further from the truth. paying for a better level of support as they have said is not worth it.

it brings me to my current issue where support have shown themselves to not be worth it and leaving me without a connection for over a day as their suppliers, i assume zen, claim no problems but given they don't believe a 200% increase in latency is and issue either-no hope.

idnet refused to move me to another service not using zen so instead they will now lose my custom. i'd rather pay premium price and get a premium service, or bottom of the barrel and get the same but not pay lots and get bare minimum.

Response From iDNET - 30th Sep, 2021

Dear Roggydenn,

Sorry to see you are dissatisfied with your service from IDNet.

I'm afraid we cannot find any unresolved cases matching this description so can only respond to the comments made here in your review.

We can provide broadband services via BT Wholesale, CityFibre, Openreach, TalkTalk Business and Zen Wholesale. However, not all carriers are available to us at every location. We are sometimes able to switch customers between carriers (contract allowing) where possible.

Without having more detail to locate the ticket I can only assume that a network switch was not possible in this case. I'm certain this would have been explained at the time. Of course, you are within your rights to switch service provider at anytime in line with your service term (30 days on ADSL, FTTC, SOGEA, PSTN. Initial 1 year on FTTP and Gfast).

Sadly, we cannot always give customers exactly what they want, being subject to limitations of the technology, third parties and external factors (where applicable) however, we will always go above and beyond for our Customers with every member of the Team ready to provide honest, accurate support. If you have a complaint to the contrary I would urge you to raise this to us at support@idnet.com so we can fully assess the claim and take action if necessary.

We sincerely wish you all the best with your new service provider.

I have been with IDNET for several years. My wife and I use tv catch-up services and, like many, good reliable internet connection has become essential for email and for banking. We find the ‘lite’ service from IDNET (and fixed line telephone) matches our needs perfectly and at a cost that is actually value for money!
I frequently find myself assisting friends and neighbours with their computer problems and am staggered just how many stagger on with some cheap and cheerful router supplied some years ago by a long since taken over company and now rely on a service that is hopeless. Usually because of the headline ‘bargain’ price.
You invariably get what you pay for and I am very happy indeed to pay a couple of pounds a month extra for the peace of mind that comes with having the support of what must surely be one of the best isps available.

I’ve been with IDNet for about 10 years and can’t fault them. If you have to contact customer service, you can speak with someone directly within seconds and they are able to sort out any issues without fuss.

I’ve used various service providers over the past 20 years or so, IDNet is by far the best.

Whilst not the cheapest, you get what you pay for.

Keep up the good work.

Have been with IDNET for many years. May be a bit more expensive than some providers but worth the price for the consistently high speeds and solid reliability. On the very rare occasions that support is needed it is always available and provided by proper technical support staff who know what they’re speaking about.

Thirteen years in fact - so one would (rightly) assume that I've been happy with them. For me it's the personal service I get if I need to ring for some advice or to check something.
I would, however, say that I was a bit confounded when I called a few months ago to see what arrangements were envisaged for 2025 when the phone landlines are apparently going to be withdrawn by BT/Openreach. I did speak to a very knowledgable fella who, no doubt, had his finger on the pulse but it did seem a bit complicated for the likes of a simpleton such as I. As a domestic customer I haven't heard from IDNet in connection with the propesed changes and guess there's still plenty time but I'm hoping that for residential customers such as I it is made as simple and easy to understand as possible.

I’ve been with iDnet for such a long time that I can’t remember when my husband first joined. He died 13 years ago and iDNet already felt like old friends. I think what I appreciate most, particularly having talked to people who use the big providers, is that it’s so easy to get through to someone if you need help. For many years ‘Press one for sales’ press two for support’ was the welcome message and I have never had to wait for an answer. I’ve tried hard to persuade friends to join when they get fed up with the mega companies and their cheap deals but sady they all prefer to have bad service and pay £5 less a month. I don’t understand it.

For the past five years or so I’ve had telephone as well as broadband through iDNEt and I’m very glad I changed.

Take a bow iDNET. You’re the best out there.

I have been with IDNET since 2008 and have never regretted switching to them. Service has always been excellent and the helpline (when needed) is fast, knowledgeable and pleasant to deal with.
Line speed is very close to the theoretical maximum for my location from the cabinet (FTTC) and ‘uptime’ is very good. On the few occasions when Openreach has required a ‘prod’ to resolve an issue, IDNET has always got them moving!
