I moved to Now broadband, having been with BT for a few years, and wanting to save some pennies.
I was attracted by the low cost, £20 per month for up to 30mb connection, plus free anytime phone calls. It was by far the cheapest deal out there.
Previously with BT, I’d rarely ever experienced severe lagging or any consistent reliability issues, and as we have an internal mesh network, coverage has always been good.
However, despite a very smooth move to NOW, that is where the good ends.
Immediately we noted the speed fluctuating massively at different times of day. We were used to streaming Netflix on multiple tvs without an issue, or playing music throughout the house.
TV programs now often became barely watchable and lag was terrible. Internet kept dropping out. I read up that the NOW service tries to determine the most reliable settings so we should expect fluctuations…. But this was crazy.
It settled to a barely usable level that meant we could barely use tablets or listen to music.
I factory reset the router and this time it’s settled slightly better… and we can watch Netflix at least on one tv. I still have to reboot the router occasionally to make it connect faster than 3mb…
Christmas Day was awful though, it could barely be used for the most basic things. Music would stop… videos couldn’t be played. Boxing Day slightly better…
