where I work I have been with zen for a few months now. I had previsouly been with bt openworld since 2002.
with BT i was getting lost internet connections nearly everyday. sometimes I would have no internet for an hour or so. my business is now more dependent on having a reliable internet connection so it was time to move to someone else.

i thought that all ISPs would be the same.
but then I came across this website and saw the top 10 isp list.
i just has to move over to another better ISP, but who??

i didn't want to move over to a very small company that had just launched in the last few years, as most of the companies in the top 10 are.

I saw that zen was in both the top 10 ISP list for service and size.

after doing my research, zen is not the cheapest , but then I was looking for the best reliable service after my experience with BT.

now that having reliable internet connection is critical to running my business, I now get consistent good quality connections all day every day during the office hours in the weekday.

I am glad to have choosen ZEN even if it means it costs me more than other ISPs, but I know I have something reliable that I can depend on.

I was charged a line install I didn't need (the technician arrived to find a line already in place) and it took an unanswered email, multiple phone calls, and a lot of repeating the same information to two different reps to have Zen Internet spontaneously decide they weren't going to refund the charge - or even offer some token service gesture for all the hassle.

I wouldn't even mind so much if it weren't for the run around I was given and the amount of time I had to spend repeating the same information. In the end, I might as well have been talking to Virgin or any other large ISP.

I chose Zen because I thought a smaller ISP would have better customer service than the big providers but this is definitely not the case.

I'm seeing a lot of billboards right now for BT's '6 months free broadband promotion with cheap calls' and I'm really regretting having gone with Zen.

I have been with ADSL24 for a few years now and even when they moved to Murphx I basically got decent service from them and good speeds. My biggest concern was when there was a problem I was dealing with a reseller who had to deal with Murphx who then had to deal with BT. But I usually got around 5-6Mb service which is good where I am.

Then I saw Zen had dropped their prices..£25 for 100GB. And they have there own infrastructure. So I decided to give them ago given their reputation. Transfer was painless and I am now getting 6-7Mb speed. As I had my phone with someone else I transferred that as well so I have only one company to deal with for both. that also went well. Proof will be when I get a problem but everything they have done so far has been professional and smooth.

Title: Zen
Decent ISP not as good as some suggest.
Biggest flaw and the reason I left them after 3-4 years they give out your personal details with ease.
If anyone contacts them they give out your personal details and in my opinion this is a valid reason never to be a customer.
Support is ok not great better knowledge than most but still pretty limited (by wage structure I assume).
Now I would consider it pretty dated ISP like Bethere.uk lagging way behind the competition. Zen never was going to be a major player which was the reason I joined in the first place.
As I now use my internet purely for mails and even that less so since mobile technology improved Sky is fine.
There are other ISP's that do not shape/manage out there. Zen tends to get a better write-up than they really merit.

An internet connection must always be available for it to be any use. What good is an inactive network connection when you have work to do or want to make an WWW query. It is always worth paying for reliability and quality. I have been with Zen for years and they have always been excellent, reliable and consistent.
We have just upgraded to fibre to cabinet service and the speed is now amazing. We get over 60 Mbs download and over 8 upload. With 3 heavy computer users in the house this is fantastic, but I wonder if we will exceed the 100 Gbyte month limit I selected.
I have only had to call their customer service dept a few times over the years we have been with them and cannot fault them. They actually know what they are talking about and talk to you as an adult - none of this "switch the equipment off and on" stuff that they know everyone will have already tried before calling them.
They are to be unreservedly recommended.

I cannot fault Zen. With their new download limits, they cannot any longer be classed as not value for money.

Service is impeccable and highly professional.

I've been with Zen for almost 5 years and 3 house moves and think they are excellent.

The problem with getting broadband in my (and friends') experience is that you look at the prices and Zen looks pricey and others look much cheaper. So you go for the cheaper option and all is fine ... until you have an issue and have to phone support and then you end up wanting to throttle the support staff and hurl your router out of the window. What you are paying for is broadband PLUS insurance.

I've had little cause to phone Zen support but when I have they have treated me like an adult, don't read from pre-prepared scripts that drive me crazy, know what they are talking about and they have ALWAYS sorted out any problem I had. After moving to my last place they did speed tests down the line and even partially reprogrammed my local BT exchange to sort things out. They give me their names and sometimes their own personal support number.

I've moved in to share with my partner and his BB was with TalkTalk previously. Out internet connection would be fine one day and then the line could drop and reconnect 10 times in an hour or worse on somedays. I recommended we went to Zen - we didn't notice any hiccup at all on the day of the switchover, except that one the same phone line, splitter and router we now have 100% and faster broadband. Just like that.

Zen do have a download cap and they cost more than many, but they deliver what they say, have superb support and a 1 month contract so that you can leave if you're not happy. Good value does not equal cheap, although it may do. You pays your money and you takes your choice.

Changed from BT to Zen for cost 12 months ago. Since then we have gone through 3 of their routers. Customer service (a term I use under advice) tells me as our contract has gone beyond 12 months if we want a new router we will have to pay for one. From them £109, direct from Thomson £78. Customer service, when this price difference is pointed out to them, say our service our price. OK, my money my choice get knotted. Now await the MAC code, maybe up to 10 days but as we have no service anyway there is nothing to lose. Bt have agreed to provide the same service at the same price. No choice is there? BT, welcome back.
Will never return to ZEN even if large amounts of money were offered.

I have been with Zen since 2008 so have by now some experience of the service. Having had dreadful speeds of between 100 and 500 kbps and severe traffic shaping at peak periods when I was with Virgin prior to joining Zen, broadband life has improved enormously with this ISP. Zen provides me with a steady download speed of 4400 kbps, despite my house being in rural Scotland. What is so important is that Zen has no traffic shaping. Moreover, you never have to wait long to reach their customer service, which I have had to call when I had problems with a router (not provided by them). They soon sorted that out. I pay about £18 a month for this superb service, which, incidentally, carries with it only a month's contractual bind. I call that a bargain.
