Having moved into a new-build Persimmon house, I found out that my only option for Broadband (or, indeed, any internet connection at all) was Fibrenest which is run by... Persimmon. I had a look at the price list (https://www.fibrenest.com/pricelist) and decided to go with the fastest connection, which had the added bonus of a free public IP. I signed up and set up the direct debit. They promised the broadband to be activated on the day we moved in (which in fairness, it was), and all was well or so I thought.
It turns out Fibrenest uses CG-NAT (carrier-grade NAT), meaning you're essentially double-NATed, so opening ports to the internet isn't possible. You don't have a direct connection. Furthermore, that public IP that they promise? After I raised a support ticket asking for my public IP, I was told it isn't possible on their network and I wouldn't be getting one. I also haven't been able to use my own router in place of their Linksys router as it never gains a WAN IP or a connection to the network.
Speeds are ok - the network gets quite congested during the evenings and speeds suffer as a result suggesting poor investment in what is quite a small network. I've also been cut off in the middle of the night for short periods of time without explanation. Realistically, it's not the worst ISP, but far from the best. Mis-selling and a monopolised sale makes it a bitter pill.
